Thum & Partner was honored by Managing IP at the EMEA Awards 2026 in the category UPC Impact Case of the Year. The firm received the award for its involvement in the Edwards v. Meril litigation.

We welcome Richard Bonna to our team as Associate. Before joining Thum & Partner, the German patent attorney worked for a patent law firm in Aachen, where he handled patent applications for a leading cellphone provider and assisted in advising several German start-ups on the development of their patent portfolios, among other things.

During his studies of electrical engineering, he worked at the Institute for Analog Integrated Circuits, where he concentrated on Power over-Ethernet applications and motor drivers based on SiC power transistors.

Richard Bonna has a broad technical background, particularly in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and medical engineering and is well-versed in patenting software related inventions. Moreover, he has experience in the fields of mobile communications, aerospace engineering and logistics.

We welcome Anna Laura Höchsmann to our team as a patent engineer. Before joining Thum & Partner, she gained practical experience in research and the industry during her studies of Environmental and Process Engineering by researching aerosols at the Hochschule Heilbronn, evaluating engine durability tests at a leading automotive manufacturer and in the area of energy management for a globally active manufacturer of aluminum products. Subsequently, she worked at a leading manufacturer of aluminum products as Junior Engineer and Trainee.

Anna Laura Höchsmann is seeking admission as German and European Patent Attorney.

We welcome Philip Bonnaire to our team as patent engineer. Before joining Thum & Partner, he focused on the thermoacoustic instabilities of gas turbines under high hydrogen supply for his Ph.D. thesis and worked with industry-leading companies concerning this matter. Philip Bonnaire has profound knowledge in computer-assisted simulation as well as data-driven analysis.

Furthermore, Philip Bonnaire is author of six scientific publications and attended several conferences in Europe and the US as a speaker.

He is seeking admission as German and European Patent Attorney.

We welcome Maximilian Becker to our team as patent engineer.

Before joining Thum & Partner, he worked as battery scientist and project manager at Samsung SDI Europe after finishing his M. Sc. in chemistry and his Ph.D. in material science in Switzerland at the ETH Zurich and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology (Empa) in Dübendorf. In his Ph.D., he focused on the topic of lithium-ion batteries. At Samsung SDI Europe, Maximilian Becker gained practical experience in research and development of manufacturing solid-state batteries.
