Alexandra Schiener supports clients in IP matters in the field of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and life science. During her 20-year work practice in German and US IP law firms, she has gained profound IP experience in different technical fields such as biotechnology/life science, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, polymer chemistry and inorganic materials. Her work encompasses full support in handling applications and patents, from preparing application strategies up to grant of European patents, including application drafting, prosecution, and patent defense in oppositions before the European Patent Office. She also assists in patent prosecution in national phases and in preparing freedom-to-operate analyses and patent validity opinions.

Alexandra has sound knowledge of chemistry, based on her studies of the main areas of chemistry – i.e. inorganic, organic and physical chemistry – as well as technical chemistry. During her PhD thesis at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Alexandra has extended her knowledge to encompass the areas of biotechnology and life science. Her favorite technical fields of work are ecologically sustainable technologies and new technologies at the interface of chemistry and biochemistry, in particular biopolymers and pharmaceuticals.
