Bernhard Thum is a founding partner and the Managing Partner of Thum & Partners. He was a partner in one of Germany’s leading IP law firms for over 15 years. Mr Thum is highly experienced in the representation of clients in all types of proceedings before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the German local and higher regional courts as well as the Federal Court of Justice. In addition, he contributed his opinion as an IP expert in several national and international court proceedings outside Germany and supports and advises clients in multi-national patent infringement proceedings in and outside Europe. Mr Thum has several years of experience as in-house Patent Manager and Licensing Manager of Siemens AG.

Bernhard Thum was an inventor, has a Master’s degree in European intellectual property law and took part in the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School to become a mediator. As a tutor, he promotes young talent in the framework of patent attorney training.

Bernhard Thum is a member of LES Germany, LESI, FICPI and GRUR.

Bernhard Thum is recommended by Who's Who Legal both in the global and in the German ranking. He has further been recommended by JUVE Patent as one of 22 German Patent attorneys with technical specialty in 2023. Handelsblatt in cooperation with Best Lawyers lists him as one of Germany's "Best Laywers" in 2023.
