Francesca Paola Quacquarelli joined Thum & Partner in 2023 as a patent engineer and is seeking admission as European Patent Attorney.
She started her training to become a European Patent Attorney in a German law firm in Munich. Her training includes working at two large UK and US firms, where she focused on prosecution and drafting of patent applications.
Previously, she worked as a research scientist in cross-disciplinary projects, focused on using a combination of super- and high-resolution microscopy techniques to investigate the properties of matter, as well as biological tissues, at the nanoscale.
Her doctoral work, carried out in Sheffield, England, delved into energy transfer across single molecules on a surface, with the purpose of building a hybrid nanomachine. After using superresolution microscopy to investigate bacterial cell walls, and then moving to Munich for implementing tuning-fork atomic force microscopy techniques in closed-cycle cryostats, she was able to image for the first time the nervous system of a whole mouse using light-sheet microscopy.
