Francesca Paola Quacquarelli joined Thum & Partner in 2023 as a patent engineer and is approaching qualification as a European Patent Attorney.
She began her training at a Munich-based patent law firm and has since gained experience at UK- and US-based international firms in their respective Munich offices. Her work at Thum & Partner focuses on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, in particular in the fields of mechanical engineering, physics, and biomedical devices. She is involved in proceedings before the European Patent Office, including opposition and appeal matters, drafting briefs and supporting case preparation and procedural aspects. In addition, she advises clients while keeping technical and commercial requirements in mind.
Prior to entering the patent profession, Francesca worked as a research scientist on interdisciplinary projects at the interface of physics and life sciences. Her work included the use of combined super- and high-resolution microscopy techniques to investigate materials and biological systems at the nanoscale.
She completed her doctoral research at the University of Sheffield, where she studied energy transfer at the single-molecule level. This scientific background, together with her experience in advanced imaging techniques, supports her ability to engage with complex technical subject matter in her current practice.
